A. Jeanne Goldman

January 24, 1930 — April 10, 2012

A. Jeanne Goldman (nee Mamet), 82, died April 10, 2012, at St. Rita's Medical Center after a brave battle with cancer. She was born January 24, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio, to Max and Sara Mamet, and married Dr. Sandy Goldman in 1951. They were married 57 years until his death in 2008.
Jeanne was an accomplished artist, an avid traveler, a volunteer extraordinaire, and, above all else, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a cultural arts liason at The Ohio State University at Lima (now Rhodes College) and remained an ardent supporter of the local arts, including Artspace /Lima and the Lima Symphony Orchestra. An active member of the community, she was a congregant of Temple Beth Israel-Shaare Zedek and a member of the sisterhood there; she also often attended the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Lima. She served four years as president of the Friends of the Lima Public Library, was a member of the Lima Area Watercolor Society, and volunteered locally for numerous Democratic presidential campaigns.
Jeanne and Sandy were involved with the American Volksport Association (AVA) for countless years and hiked thousands of miles throughout the country and internationally. They also founded a local hiking group associated with AVA.
Jeanne is survived by two daughters, Joyce Bigam of Cuyahoga Falls and Joan (Alvarez Hardin) Goldman of Columbus; a son, James (Sarah) Goldman of Cincinnati; three granddaughters, Kate Bigam, Emily Goldman, and Grace Goldman; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Hoffman and Adele Benjamin, both of Columbus, and Lois Goldman of Beachwood; and her cousin and dear friend, Annette Kaplan Weil, of San Diego, Calif; as well as many wonderful friends and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sandy, as well as her brothers-in-law, Morrey Goldman and Max Hoffman, and a son-in-law, David Bigam.
Services will be held today, April 12, 11:00 a.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home with Rabbi Javier Cattapan officiating, with burial immediately following at Jewish Cemetery, Woodlawn.
