Alberta L. Rayburn, 94 of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Lima, Ohio died on Friday, September 9, 2011, at Wesley Glen Retirement Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Born Friday, August 3, 1917 in Lima, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Albert Peltier and the late Lulu Tippie Peltier. She was the wife of the late Carl Roderick (Rod) Rayburn, whom she married on April 21, 1942.
Mrs. Rayburn was a graduate of Elida High School, attended Lima Business College and was a stenotypist Judge Robert Light. During the war Alberta worked at the Lima Tank Depot and volunteered at the Lima Canteen. Mrs. Rayburn worked at Redmond's Bookstore for several years, and was a Secretary in the Law Office of Atty's Bowers, White, and DeMeo for over 18 years. She retired in 1982. She was a long time member of the Cable Road Alliance Church.
Surviving is a son, Rev. Carl A. (Deborah) Rayburn of Pickerington, OH, daughters, Eileen (Dan) McLeister of Carol Stream, IL and Laura (Dan) Skidmore of Columbus, OH. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Eric Skidmore, Alison (Ian) Maute, Blake Skidmore, Natalie (Paul) Smith, Carol McLeister, Katherine McLeister, Samantha Rayburn, and 4 great grandchild, Mikayla and Evan Smith; Maggie and Jane Maute.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carl (Rod) and brothers, Rev. Donald Peltier and Robert Peltier.
Alberta was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor and sweet spirit. She was a friend to all she met and an active member of the Lima Legal Secretaries and Cable Road Keenagers. In her younger years, Alberta worked in the children's programming and nursery of the Alliance church and enjoyed sending cards and notes to friends and family.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 pm. with Pastor Ronald Jones officiating. A private family graveside service will occur at a later date.
