Alfred Darnell

ALFRED WILLIAM DARNELL, 78, died at 8 a.m. July 4, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born February 7, 1927, in Madison, Indiana, to James Edward Darnell and Angela Rice Darnell Gardner, who preceded him in death. He had married Ruth Joan Lane Darnell Robinson, who survives in Waynesfield, Ohio. He married Jean Diehl, who preceded him in death. On February 14, 1998, he married Norma McCormick, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Darnell retired from Scott Lad Foods as a truck driver. He was a member of Amvets and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370. He was a past member of Orioles Nest 173, Lima. He was a member of American Legion Post 98. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Lima Central High School. Survivors also include two sons, Patrick S. (Deborah) Darnell, and Michael D. Darnell, both of Waynesfield, Ohio; a daughter, Gayla Sue of California; six step-children, Shirley Raye Purdy of Lafayette, Ohio, Ellen Kay (Robert) Combs of Cape Hatteras, N.Carolina, Donald (Cindy) Farrar and Coni (John) Dodge, both of Lima, Ohio, David Farrar of Caldwell, and Carol Farrar of Cambridge, Ohio; a brother, Don (Jackie) Darnell of Lima, Ohio; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Lee Darnell; two brothers, Robert Darnell and Wilkes Darnell; and a sister, Rosemary Smith. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Denny Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in Bluelick Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
