Alyce Wroe Jenkins , 105, died at 1:36 a.m. April 25, 2009, at Baton Rouge Senior Health Facility. She was born September 2, 1903, in Manchester, England, to Albert and Amanda Biggs Wroe. Mrs. Jenkins became a U.S. citizen when she was 27. After graduating from Ohio Northern University with a life certificate in elementary education, she began a long teaching career, beginning the first year in a one-room country school with 40 pupils. She taught the majority of her career at Roosevelt School. She was a member of the Market Street Presbyterian Church. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter AS. She was a past president of Sorosis Literary Club and a lifetime member of the Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary with more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service. Survivors include a niece and caretaker, Kathleen (Robert) Hire, of New Albany, Ohio; a nephew and caretaker, Kim (Laura) Winget, of Marion, Ohio; a niece, Constance Davenport, of England; a nephew, Dennis Dart, of Michigan; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Molly Winget and Elise Grice; and a brother, Kenneth Dart. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastors Susan Reichenberg and Samuel Payne will officiate. Burial will be in Reynolds Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
