Amos Long, Jr., 83 of Elida died at 9:40 PM, Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Delphos, Ohio.

Born Tuesday, April 30, 1929 in Lima, Ohio, he was the son of the late Amos Long and the late Emma Heil Long. On December 31, 1953 he married Marjean F. Irvin and she survives.

Mr. Long served in the 594th Transportation Group-Paris Detachment of the United States Army during the Korean War. He was owner of Long's Swimming Pool and Long Lake Scuba. He retired from Ford Motor Company, Lima Engine Plant. He also worked at Baldwin Lima Hamilton and was a talented welder. He was a proud member of the Ohio Boer Goat Association and founding member of the Lima Scubanauts, Gomer United Church of Christ, M.E.L. club of Ford Motor, Garrett Wykoff 585 Free & Accepted Masons, American Legion Post #96, and Lima Veteran Foreign Wars Post #1275, Lima. Mr. Long was also and strong supporter of Boy Scouts of America along with being an Eagle Scout, 4-H adviser, Red Cross Swimming Instructor and YMCA Scuba Instructor. The family cannot express enough thanks for the wonderful care he received from the Vancrest staff and Putnam County Homecare & Hospice.

Surviving are son, Amos Oren (Michele) Long of Elida, OH, daughters, Donise (Jewel) Woodard of Toledo, OH and Fara (Nathan) Ewing of Elida, OH. Also he was a proud grandfather of five grand-children; Adam and Christian Long, Thaddeus Woodward, and Codey and Colton Ewing. Also a sister-in-law, Donabelle Crider, and three nephews Irvin (Shirley) Crider, Dr. Tony (Megan) Crider, Aaron (Lori) Crider.

He is also survived by his family from the heart. Emil (Betty) Allemier, Art and Twink Miller Family, Kevin (Trina) Ballard Family, Nick (Joey) Ballard Family, Robert (Cindy) Anderson Family, Linda Alger and Vern Hadding, Nate and Christy McCall Family

He was preceded in death by a brother, Val David Long and a sister Miriam Long Harter.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 17, 2013 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home, with Pastor Mike Hartman officiating.

Interment will be in Pike Run Cemetery, Gomer with Military Rites by Veterans Foreign Wars Post #1275 and United States Army.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Gomer United Church of Christ or American Township Fire Dept or Putnam County Homecare & Hospice
