ARTHUR LEE ORCHARD, JR.,
85 of Lima Ohio died on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 9:55 p.m. at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home in Lima.

Born March 13, 1927, in Allen County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Arthur Orchard, Sr. and the late Emma Belle (Shaner) Orchard. He was a descendent of one of the First Families of Allen County.

On September 30, 1945, he married his high school sweetheart, VaLaire Jane Rilee (Riley) at the First Evangelical & Reformed Church by the Rev. Paul Graeser.
Art was a Lima Central High School graduate, Class of 1945, where he had been Senior Class president and Captain of his high school football team. A long time athlete, Art was also a Central varsity baseball player and an amateur Golden Gloves boxer. In later years, he was the center fielder for the Lima E & R fast pitch softball team, a 700 Club bowler and a golfer for 60 years.
He was a member of the First E. & R. Church since 1948 where he served on the Consistory for 48 years as a Deacon, Elder and Trustee. He taught Sunday School for many years, was a past Sunday School Superintendent and a member of the Men's Brotherhood.
Art was a Master Mason, Lima Lodge 205 for 60 years and a past member of Lima Chapter, Council, Commandary and the El Karan Grotto. He had been a member of the Kiwanis and Sertoma service clubs and a life member of the B.P.O. Elks #54 in Lima.
Orchard was a member of the American Legion Post 96 for many years after having served in the U. S. Army in 1946 and 1947.
Art worked at the Russell L. Orchard Company for 40 years retiring as company president in 1987.
After retirement, he especially enjoyed being an active docent at the Allen County Museum for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife, VaLaire and two children, Jane E. (Bob) Sheraw and Thomas A. (Marcy) Orchard; three grandchildren, Brett (Michelle) Sheraw, Todd Sheraw, and Kiley Orchard; two great grandsons, Preston and Haydon Sheraw; a sister, Ruth E. Grady and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Russell L. Orchard and Edmond L Orchard and a sister Marjorie A. Kistner.

Friends may call at Chamberlain -Huckeriede Funeral Home at 920 N. Cable Rd., Lima on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. Services will be at the First Evangelical & Reformed Church 320 W. Wayne St., Lima at 11:00 a.m. Friday morning conducted by the Rev. Ed Rinehart. Entombment will be in the Woodlawn Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Evangelical and Reformed Church or the Allen County Museum in Lima.
