Betty Lee Smith 84, died at 5:06 p.m. Sept. 23, 2007, at The Ridge at Shawnee. She was born Sept. 5, 1923, in Lima to Clarence ?Lee? and Beatrice O?Brien Burgoon, who preceded her in death. On July 13, 1963, she married William H. ?Bill? Smith, who died Nov. 19, 2006. Mrs. Smith retired as a key punch operator from Westinghouse Electric Corp., where she worked from October 1941 to February 1982. She had also worked with her husband at Bill Smith?s Classic Bowling Supplies for seven years. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. She was a member of Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 and the Westinghouse Retirees. She loved fishing, bowling and card games, especially pinochle, rummy and Skip Bo. Survivors include a sister-inlaw, Betty Thomas, of Lima; a brother-in-law, Frank Duval, of Lima; 12 nephews and nieces, Jerry Thomas, Randy Thomas, Tim Bowers, Steve Duval, Susie Engberg, Danny Duval, Shelly Contini, Jill Luke, Laurie Judy, Amy Engberg, Mark Duval and Katie Schroeder; several greatnieces and great-nephews; several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; her loving dog and companion, Sammy; and several friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters, June Bowers and Patricia Duval. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church.
