Bill E. Sterling, 83, of Lima, Ohio died at 9:35 p.m. December 24, 2012 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1929 in Lima, Ohio to Marion Elmer Sterling and Ella Mae (Booher) Sterling who both preceded him in death.
Bill worked in the machine shop as a tool and die maker at Excello for over 37 years and retired in 1989. He served in the Naval Reserve until June 22, 1953. He was in the first class of the Lima Vocational School and was a member of the Lima Eagles Aerie #370. He was also an avid fisherman.
Surviving are a son, Greg P. (Debra Partee) Sterling of Columbus, OH; two daughters, Diana S. (Mark) Jeffers of Columbus, OH and Sharon K. (Joe) Mains of Springfield, OH; a very special friend Helen Sawmiller of Lima, OH: six grandchildren, Kelly Grear of Columbus, OH, Misty Grear of Columbus, OH, Natalye Seffernick of Columbus Grove, OH, Bethany Clingman of Springfield, OH, Michael (Sara) Clingman of Dayton, OH and Olivia Mains of Springfield, OH; nine great grandchildren Taylor Sullivan of Columbus Grove, OH, Jacob Ball of Columbus, OH, Phillip Vance of Columbus Grove, OH, Daulton Grear of Marengo, OH, Kaitlyn Williams of Columbus, OH, Kennedy Williams of Columbus, OH, Matthew Carpenter of Newark, OH, Destiny Hankins of Columbus, OH and Evan Hoctel of Springfield, OH; two great great grandchildren Juliette Adams and Maximus Carpenter. Also surviving is a sister Joyce Adkins, Lima, OH and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Leib and Mary Lou Wingate and a brother Charles Sterling.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home with Rev. Wanda Werking, officiating.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, Ohio with graveside military services conducted by VFW Post #1275.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
