Billy E. "Bill" Newman, 85, died at 3:15 a.m. May 21, 2008, at Triumph Hospital, Lima, Ohio. He was born April 14, 1923, in Lima, Ohio to Arthur A. and Bernice Moffett Newman, who preceded him in death. On December18, 1943, he married Anita Siferd, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Newman retired as an insurance adjuster from Westfield Insurance Group. He was a life member of South Side Christian Church. He was a charter member and honorary commodore of the Indian Lake Yacht Club. He had served on the Senior Citizens and Lochaven boards. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Shrine Club, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370. He was an Army veteran serving from January 13, 1943, to December 25, 1945. Survivors also include two daughters, Cheryl A. (John) Tucker, of Marshallville, Ohio, and Patricia A. (Jim) Farler, of Lewis Center, Ohio; a son, Ted A. (Sara) Newman, of Lima, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, John Michael (Holly) Tucker, Jim Tucker, Jeff (Jana) Tucker, Jenny Tucker, Julie Tucker, Amy Farler, Paul Farler, William "Buck" Newman, Daniel Newman and Katherine Newman; and six great-grandchildren, Kayla, Paige, Jason, Laura, Brad and Alex. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Adams and Wanda Werking will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
