Bonnie Marie Dukro 88, died at 6:08 p.m. September 3, 2009, at The Ridge at Shawnee Nursing Home. She was born October 18, 1920, in Spencerville, Ohio to Henry Franklin and Elnora Hance Sherer, who preceded her in death. On May 12, 1940, she married Robert Clem Dukro, who died August 9, 1982. Mrs. Dukro had worked at Westinghouse, Girl Scouts, Montgomery Ward, J.C. Penney and retired from Lima Memorial Hospital in 1983. She had been affiliated with the Girl Scouts since 1931 as a Scout, assistant leader and leader. She was the only one in the Lima area to receive the Golden Eaglet award. She was active in her church, Forest Park United Methodist Church, and Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District for 15 years. She was a graduate of Lima Central High School and chairwoman of the Reunion Committee for several years. She was a 50-year member and past presiding officer of Trinity Chapter No. 16 Order of the Eastern Star, 50-year member and past presiding officer of the El Karan Cauldron No. 56, past presiding officer of the Social Order of Beauceant No. 182. She was also a charter member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem No. 20 and was honored with the Miriam Award. She was a past Mother adviser of the Lima Assembly Rainbow No. 78 for girls and a holder of the Grand Cross of Colors. Survivors include a daughter Karen (Charles) Poling, of Lima, Ohio; two grandchildren, Julia (Jeff) Pratt Szkrybalo, of Troy, Ohio, and Melissa Pratt, of Bluffton, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Bradley Szkrybalo and Christina Szkrybalo; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Odes (Clara) Sherer, Howard (Thelma) Sherer, Bernard Sherer, James (Elizabeth) Sherer, Carl C. Sherer, William (Thelma) Sherer and Gale E. Sherer; and four sisters, Alice (Arnold) Stern, Olive (Arnold) Trempert, Clara Hughes and Norma Collins. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Jacobs will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
