Bruce A. Roberts, age 72, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 in Asheville, North Carolina.
Bruce was born on June 8, 1945 in Gomer, Ohio to the late Owen S. Roberts and Iva (Vandemark) Roberts. Bruce graduated from Gomer High School where he excelled at sports, particularly baseball and basketball. He went on to play baseball at Western Michigan University where he earned a degree in engineering. Bruce enjoyed a long and successful career as an executive at numerous companies including PepsiCo, Frito Lay and Wise Foods. He most recently served as Vice President of Operations at Rudolph Foods in Westminster, Ohio and was a member of Lima Lodge 205 Free & Accepted Masons.
After living in many locations during his career, including Lima, California, Dallas,TX , Williamsport, PA, and Vancouver, WA, Bruce moved to the mountain town of Glenville, NC where he enjoyed reading and home remodeling projects in his retirement.
Known to many as “Big Bruce” to distinguish him as the eldest of the three Bruces in the family, “big” also aptly described his personality, sense of humor and 6’ 4” frame. His quick wit and goofy, good-natured teasing will be missed greatly at family gatherings.
Bruce was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Owen Roberts who passed away on January 31, 2018. He is survived by daughter, Shannon Roberts; daughter-in-law Theresa Roberts; grandchildren Bruce Alan Roberts II, Danielle Escalante and Albert (Amber) Escalante; sister Kay Studer; brothers Ray Roberts and Jim (Lora) Roberts; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10AM to 11:30AM on Friday, February 23rd followed by a memorial service at 11:30AM at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio. Condolences may be expressed at www.chamberlainhuckeriede.com
