Carl Corrello

CARL E. CORRELLO, 82, died at 2 a.m. March 7, 2006, at his residence. He was born July 31, 1923, in Lima to Carl A. and Alice Doolittle Corrello, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 5, 1947, he married Helen Johnston, who survives in Lima. They had just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Mr. Corrello retired from Standard Oil Refinery, after 35 years. He had been the start-up supervisor for the Alaskan Pipeline for Standard Oil from 1976 to 1977. He was a life member of South Side Christian Church, where he served as an elder, deacon, trustee and construction co-supervisor on the new church building committee. He also served on the Christian Action Committee for 25 years, was a youth leader and a member of the Friendly Christians Class. He and his wife were the host family for two refugee families sponsored by South Side Christian Church He was a volunteer at Lima Memorial Health System for 15 years, where he was an escort and delivering mobile meals was a labor of love. He was a 1941 graduate of Lima South High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1946, in the European Theater. He was a master woodworker, having made beds for his children and grandchildren, crosses, 34 miniature homes he shared with friends and family and carved artistic pieces. He also loved to read and travel extensively with his family. Survivors also include two daughters, Cathy (Gary) Schramm of Elida and Jeanne (Larry) Burnette of Lillian, Ala.; a son-in-law, Tony Testa of Sparks, Nev.; a brother, Gene (Yvonne) Corrello of Punta Gorda, Fla.; three sisters, Margaret Werking, Thelma Johnston and Norma Baker, all of Lima; three grandchildren, Scott (Amber) Schramm and John (Jenny) MacRitchie, both of Columbus, and Jenny (Joel) Lopez of Lima; five great-grandchildren, Marcus MacRitchie, Jacob Burrell, Joey Lopez, Katie Lopez and Drew Schramm; two sisters-in-law, Neva Corrello of Omaha, Neb., and Mary Lou Corrello of Quincy, Ill.; and several dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Testa; a great-granddaughter, Nakyiah MacRitchie; three brothers, George, Robert and Chester Corrello; and a sister, Mary Ann Armstrong. Memorial services will begin at 6 p.m. today at South Side Christian Church. The Rev. Douglas E. Adams and Wanda Werking will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to services today at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Hospice, 770 W.
