Carl August Heil Jr

December 8, 1926 — February 3, 2016

Carl August Heil Jr.,
The world lost a kind and gentle man and our hearts were broken when Carl August Heil Jr, age 89, passed away on February 3, 2016. Carl was born on December 8, 1926 in Chicago, to the late Carl August Sr. and Florence (Rio) Heil. As a toddler, Carl's family (with brother - Bobby) relocated to Lima where he lived, worked and raised his family for the remainder of his life.
Carl graduated from South High School in 1944 and joined the Navy at the age of seventeen. He was a very proud WWII and Korean War veteran and upon completing his service after WWII Carl attended Bowling Green State University and enjoyed being a cheerleader for the Falcons for a short time and then moved to Chicago to attend Mortuary Science School. Those career plans changed when he returned to Lima and met the love of his life, Margaret (Peg) Phillips in 1949 and immediately began a loving courtship until they married in 1950. Just as they were beginning their life he was recalled for service in the Korean War for sixteen months. Upon returning to Lima he was hired by his father to work for the City of Lima and retired with 45 years with the City as a the Supervisor of the Sewer Division.
Carl loved many things but family was always the most important. He had a long association with the VFW 6772 (Spencerville), American legion (Spencerville), the Eagles and Elks. He enjoyed fishing and dancing. Late in life he developed a love for golf, baseball and winters in Florida. There were very few people who did not know Carl Heil. We cannot begin to count the number of Kewpee's he ate in his lifetime. Thank you Dad for leading us by example and for always being there for us with your love and support.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife 65 years Peg Heil; children, Phillip and Theresa Heil, Anita and Jay Gallentine, and Brenda and Scott Ransom; grandchildren Carl (Bo) and Erin Heil and Brittany Ransom and great grandchildren Amber and Jade Heil as well as his close nephews, great nieces and families. His devoted and sweet dog Ginger was always by his side.
The family will receive guest at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima on Friday, February 12, from 6 to 8 PM and Saturday, February 13, from 12 noon to 1 PM.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 13 at 1 PM. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Rev. Brian Knoderer will officiate. Interment will take place at a late date in Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Carl's name to Putnam County Hospice, Gomer Congressional Christian Church or Allen County Humane Society.
