Carl Rayburn

Carl R. ?Rod? Rayburn 91, died at 10:26 p.m. October 21, 2009, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. He was born August 10, 1918, in Lima, Ohio to Carl A. and Gertrude Born Rayburn, who preceded him in death. On April 21, 1942, he married Alberta L. Peltier, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Rayburn attended Lima South High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He worked at State Smelting & Refining and retired from BP Chemical. He was a member of Cable Road Alliance Church. As a young man, he drove the church bus to pick up children for Sunday school and later became a member of the Keen Agers. He was a faithful supporter of the Lima Rescue Mission. Survivors also include a son, the Rev. Carl A. (Debbie) Rayburn, of Pickerington, Ohio; two daughters, Eileen (Daniel) McLeister, of Carol Stream, Illinois, and Laura (Daniel) Skidmore, of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Ralph Rayburn; seven grandchildren, Natalie (Paul) Smith, Carol McLeister, Kathy McLeister, Eric Skidmore, Alison Skidmore (Ian) Maute, Blake Skidmore and Samantha Rayburn; and a great-grandchild, Mikayla Smith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Rayburn. Services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cable Road Alliance Church Missionary Fund, 2264 N. Cable Road, Lima, OH 45807; or the Lima Rescue Mission, 216 E. Wayne St., Lima, OH 45801.
