Carl Eugene "Gene" Reed
87, died at 9:48 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Otterbein-Cridersville Assisted Living in Cridersville, Ohio.
Carl was born on September 23, 1926, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Melvin Reed and Lovie (McGinnis) Reed. On Saturday, June 16, 1951, in Ohio, he married Dorothy Jeanne Custer. She survives in Lima.
He was a member of First Church of God at the Crossroads. He graduated from Lima Central High School; he was a swimming instructor for the Red Cross; Worked at DWG cigar factory; was an assembly line worker at Ford Motor Lima Engine plant and retired from there in 1990. He loved to fish, make latch hook rugs and was a woodworker.
He is survived by: two sons, Timothy (Sandy) Reed, of Bluffton, OH, and Jeffrey (Corrie) Reed, of Lima, OH; two daughters, Pamela (Jeff) Lewis, of Cridersville, OH, and Cynthia (Steve) Phillips, of Warren, OH; eight grandchildren, Mark (Jeanine) Lewis, Kelly (Josh) Jennings, Bryan (Jill) Lewis, Ryan Phillips, Adam (Alyssa) Phillips, Alisha (Mike) Liebrecht, Casey Reed, and Aaron Reed; seven great grandchildren, Dylan, Gabriella and Julianna Lewis, Drew and Derek Jennings, Jaxon Phillips and Hayden Liebrecht; two sisters, Betty (Bud) Pohlabel, of Port Saint Lucie, FL, and Shirley (Larry) Jett, of West La Belle, FL; a brother, Bill (Ruth) Reed, of Lima, OH; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: two sisters, Juanita (Bill) Stemen and Anna Mae Reed and two brothers Fred (Altha) Reed and Harold Reed.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
A funeral service will begin at Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Bargerstock officiating.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
