Catherine Phalen

CATHERINE MARIE PHALEN, 77, died at 6:57 a.m. August 16, 2006, at St. Rita's Medical Center. She was born October 13, 1928, in Lakeview, Ohio to Henry and Ruth McClurg Howell, who preceded her in death. On November 23, 1945, in Kentucky, she married Edward Eugene Phalen Sr., who died February 6, 2006. Mrs. Phalen had been a nurse aide at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home and at the V.A. Hospital, Houston, Texas. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 Auxiliary. Survivors include eight children, Karen S. (Hubert) Wienken of Lima, Ohio, Edward E. (Debrah) Phalen Jr. of Spring, Texas, Jeffrey (Virginia) Phalen of Bell, Texas, Francis Phalen of Spring, Texas, Tim (Janet) Phalen of Lima, Ohio, Teresa L. Clark of Spring, Texas, and Michael (Brenda) Phalen and Mary Leon, both of Lima, Ohio; 24 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Richard (Carol) Howell of Lima, Ohio, Gerald (Lynne) Howell of Cridersville, Ohio, Dale (Erma) Kersh of Findlay, Ohio, Larry Howell, Terry Howell and Ronnie Howell of Cridersville, Ohio; and five sisters, Ruth Alsept of Toledo, Ohio, Jean (Dean) Shermon of Kenton, Ohio, Susan (Woody) Schmitz of Huntington, Indiana, Bernice Howell and Carol Fess of Wapakoneta, Ohio. She was preceded in death by two sons, Patrick Phalen and James Phalen; a brother, Henry "Norman" Howell; and three sisters, Audrey Adams, Jeanette Clemans and Pauline Swarner. Services will begin at 7 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerbert Darlington will officiate.
