Catherine "Katy" Simmons

Catherine “Katy” M. Simmons,

97, died at 1:20 AM on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at her residence at Burton's Ridge Assisted Living in Lima with her family by her side.

Katy was born on Wednesday, June 1, 1921, in Ottoville, to the late Wenzel and Emma (Martin) Klima.  On Tuesday, August 25, 1942, she married M. Eugene "Gene" Simmons who preceded her in death on June 12, 1990.

Katy was a graduate of Ottoville High School, class of 1939, where she was also a cheerleader. She then graduated from Fredrick’s Beauty Academy. Katy was a member of St. Gerard's Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary CLC #222. She was also a member of the Bereavement Club, Senior Citizen, Eagles and Daughters of Isabella. Katy was an avid traveler and card and dice player. She had caned many chairs and enjoyed to doing it. Spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was what she dearly loved to do. Katy had a very strong faith and everyone would ask her to add their intentions to her daily prayers and novena.

She is survived by her children, Kathy (Rex) Mowery, Lima, Michael "Mike" (Karen) Simmons, Lima, Patti Marlatt, Dayton, Donald (Betty) Simmons, Westerville, Barb Hoersten, Ottoville, and Gloria (Ed) Greeley, Lima; son-in-law,  Dominic "Butch" (Virginia) DeGrands ; sister-in-law,  Ladonna Klima, Delphos; twenty-one grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

She is preceded in death by: daughter, Nancy DeGrands; twin sister & brother-in-law, Sally (Louie) Klausing; brother, Leonard (Ruth) Klima, Ottoville brother, Vincent Klima; brother & sister-in-law, Anthony (Fritz) Klima; brother & sister-in-law, William (Margaret) Klima; sister & brother-in-law, Bertha (Ray) Spieles; grandson Marc; and son-in-law, Dan Hoersten.

The family would like to thank the staff at Burton’s Ridge for their excellent care and compassionate towards Katy and her family.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 PM on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Gerard's Catholic Church in Lima, Ohio on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 11AM. Fr. Mike Sergei will officiate.  Interment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Central Catholic School, St. Gerards Catholic Church, or St. Rita’s Hospice.
