CHARLES EDWARD BOOP, 83, formerly of Lima, Ohio, died at 5:30 p.m. August 14, 2006, at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born July 5, 1923, in Piqua, Ohio to John and Dora Poling Boop, who preceded him in death. On June 14, 1952, in Germany, he married Irmgard Luise Nalezinski, who was the love of his life, and she died September 13, 2004. Mr. Boop was a member of Roofers Local 86. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, American Legion Post 96 and Orioles Nest 173. He had been a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 199 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370. He was an Army veteran, serving from May 16, 1944, to June 17, 1953, with the 47th Infantry. He served seven years in Germany during World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, three Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantry Badge. He enjoyed gardening in his retirement, making people laugh and babysitting his great-grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Roy Willi (Margaret) Boop of Lima, Ohio; a daughter, Delores (James) Bartlett of Alger, Ohio; a sister, Mary Jackson of Lima, Ohio; four grandchildren, Melissa Dotson, Scott (Angela) Bartlett, Nolan Boop and Amy Boop; and three great-grandchildren, Trevor Dotson, Mason Dotson and Dominic Rinaldi. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Boop; and three sisters, Goldie Killen, Grace Brumfield and Marion Green. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Brother Lloyd Salyers will officiate. Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.
