Charles Edward Hartung Jr., 96, passed peacefully from this earth and into his Savior’s arms at 2:05 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Charles was born to Lucille (Claussen) and Charles Hartung, Sr. on June 28, 1927, in Rib Lake, Wisconsin; but spent the majority of his life in Ludington, Michigan. Charles entered the Army and served in the military police from 1946-1947. Charles married his high school sweetheart, Eva McDole on August 14, 1948, and together they had two children. Charles had many careers, including truck driving, skilled laborer, chicken/corn farmer, HVAC business owner, and even piloted his own plane. Charles devoted his life to the Lord at a young age and supported missionaries across the world for most of his life.
Charles lost Eva, his wife of 45 years in 1993. He found a companion in Helen Hallsberg and they were married for 26 years, living in North Port, FL until her death in 2016. He then married Louise Wright who preceded him in death in 2020. Charles moved to Lima in 2020 to be near his son’s family.
Charles was also preceded in death by his parents, and his younger brothers, Kenneth and Robert; but is survived by his sister, Jeannine Bostrom of Sarasota, FL. He is also survived by his children, Linda (William) Goodrich of Freesoil, MI, and Mick (Nancy) Hartung of Lima, OH; his grandchildren: Rick (Andrea) Hartung, Rebecca (Steven) Morrow, Elizabeth Goodrich, and Scott (Lindsay) Hipshire. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren and really enjoyed the time he got to spend the last 3 years in Lima, with his great-grandsons, Andrew and Hunter Hartung.
The family would like to give a special thanks to The Wyngate Senior Living Community and Interim Hospice for the care they have provided to Charles over the last 3 ½ years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Lima Baptist Temple Fellowship Hall from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to attend and share memories of Charles.
