Charles Laing Jr., 85 of Lima, Ohio died at 1:35 AM on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at his residence.
Born July 4, 1926 in Lima, Ohio, to Charles Laing Sr. and Glenna Fickle Laing who preceded him in death He married Dorothy McKee February 26, 1949 in Kentucky and she survives.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1945 until 1947 and was a Veteran of World War II.
Mr. Laing had worked at Westinghouse Electric, La Rue's Transmission Service, and retired from the Dana Corporation. His hobbies were fishing, gardening, mushroom hunting and playing cards with his friends. He loved spending time with his grandkids.
Surviving are sons, John (Donna) Laing of Lima, OH, Tom (Ellyn) Laing of West Liberty, OH and Joe (Sheila) Laing of Lima, OH, daughters, Connie (Eric) Martin of Elida, OH and Penny (Jeff) Coleman of Lima, OH, also survived by twelve grandchildren: Missi Laing of Cridersville, Jessie Settlemire of Spencerville, Alina (Scott) Deerhake of Maryville, TN, Eric (Tammy) Martin of Lima, Harlan (Tammy) Laing of Urbana, Michael Coleman of Lima, Laura (Joshua) Shrader of Lima, Joseph (Amanda) Laing of Blacklick,OH, Michelle Laing of Columbus, OH, Jennifer (Mark) Hartford of Russells Point, OH , Matthew (Tara) Laing of Toledo,OH, Caitlin Laing of Bellefontaine,OH. He is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Two sisters, Opal Hinegardner of Lima, OH and Mildred Allen of California, a sister-in-law Fairie Edmiston, and sister-in-law Ester Laing.
He was preceded in death by by brothers, Roy Laing, Elzie Laing, and Fred Edmiston, sisters, Susie Stewart and Edna Lowe, sister-in-law Norma Laing, sister & brother-in-law Bernice (Russ) Roeder, brother-in-law Bill Hinegardner.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday at Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Pastor Larry Walters officiating. Graveside military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 1275.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions may be made to have a tree planted in his honor.
