Charles R. Schumm, 93, died at 9:15 a.m. Nov. 17, 2007, at Baton Rouge Senior Health Facility. He was born April 29, 1914, in Rockford to Charles and Jenneta A. B u r e y Schumm, who preceded him in death. In 1947, he married Marlene Conley, who died in 1994. In 2002, he m a r r i e d Velma Harden Byrne, who died in 2007. Mr. Schumm was a retired warrant officer from the Ohio Army National Guard after 30 years. He served in World War II and Korea. He had also worked at Clark Equipment and American Century Security. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple and Tri-County Gun Collectors and had served as its president. He was a member of Frateran Order of Eagles Aerie 370, Lima, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Lima. He was a great storyteller, relating many war stories. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Stanley E. Pendlebury, of Hilton Head, S.C.; granddaughter, Ann Turner, of Lima; two stepgrandsons, Michael (Patty) Montgomery, of Lima, and Brian (Teresa) Montgomery, of Lima; three stepgranddaughters, Tina (Michael) Kirkendall, of Harrod, Anne (Christopher) Horn, of Lima, and Lynne Montgomery, of Lima; and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren, 11 stepgreat-great-grandchildren and several other stepchildren and stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Fredrick Montgomery. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lima Baptist Temple. The Rev. Gary Hohman will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home and 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
