Charles S. Swartz 88, died at 1:06 p.m. November 11, 2007, at Lima Convalescent Home. He was born June 2, 1919, in Elida, Ohio to C. Sherman and Lydia Stemen Swartz, who preceded him in death. On November 16, 1947, in P r e m o n t , Texas, he married Imogene Balzer, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Swartz had been an operator for Trunkline Gas Co. He was active in churches in Texas and in Ohio. He was a member of the Lions Club in Premont, Texas. He was a Little League umpire for 35 years. He was involved in making wooden toys for less fortunate children. He enjoyed golfing and gardening. Survivors also include a son, Steve (Pam) Swartz, of Plymouth, Indiana; two daughters, Carrie (Daryl) Dicke, of Wichita, Kansas, and Amy (John) Roelse, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Roelse, Travis Swartz, Catherine Roelse and Tanner Swartz; three sisters, Irene Swartz, Bertha Whitcher and Jane (Al) Good, of Lima, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Swartz. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marion Swartz and Samuel Swartz; and a brother-in-law, Forest Whitcher. Services will begin at 11 a.m. today at Salem Mennonite Church. The Rev. Mel Hathaway will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at Salem Mennonite Church on Gomer Road or Gideon?s Bible Fund.
