Charles W. Lee, Sr., 89, died at 11:11 p.m. July 19, 2010, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home. He was born Sept. 14, 1920, in Lorain, to John E. and Clara Wonderly Lee, who preceded him in death. On June 13, 1944, he married Dorothy Jeanne Hughes, who died Jan 24, 1998. Mr. Lee graduated from Canton McKinley High School in Canton. He attended Miami University for two years prior to World War II, at which time he served in the Navy and Marines as a pharmacists mate on both land and sea. During his sea duty, he was married to Dorothy Jeane Hughes in a small Lutheran Church on Long Beach, Calif. After the service, he returned to Miami University with an assistantship in the zoology department. He graduated with an A.B. degree and was in Wooster at the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station in conjunction with Ohio State University?s Department of Entomology. He had an assistantship leading to his Master?s degree in Entomology. He was a chemical engineer at Goodyear Aircraft. He was the owner and operator of Abate ?The Little Bugger? Pest Control of Lima before becoming the librarian at the Lima State Hospital, from which he retired. He had done volunteer work in the YMCA and was a past member of the Lima Lions, a member of the Masonic Order, Fort Amanda Lodge 706, and past president of Masters High 12. He was a lifetime physical fitness advocate and held many Masters National and World Records in power lifting. Survivors include three sons, Charles W. (Gail) Lee Jr. of Farmersville, John R. (Debra) Lee or Greer, S.C., and Wesley H. (Dee) Lee of Worthington; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jean Lee Crawford. Services will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. James Folk will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor?s choice.
