Charles J. Wood 93, died at 12:09 p.m. August 22, 2009, at his daughter?s residence. He was born February 7, 1916, in Cairo, Ohio to Richard and Cora Jennings Wood, who preceded him in death. In 1936, he married Marjorie Harps, who survives. He married Mitzie Green, who preceded him in death. His longtime companion, Jan Baber, also preceded him in death. Mr. Wood retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp., Lima. Following his retirement, he worked at Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, Lima, where he was also was a member. He was a life member of the Cairo Monroe Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 Dads Club, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 199, Orioles Nest 173, all in Lima and the Golden Moose. He loved his family very much and was an avid gardener. Survivors also include a son, Gerald (Terry) Wood, of Norfolk, Virginia; a daughter, Sharon (Keith) McCullough, of Cairo, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Diana Green Hensley; and eight grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 21 step great grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two stepsons, Don Green and Jon Green; a step grandchild, Flint McCullough; four brothers, Calvin Wood, Lester Wood, Lloyd Wood and Russell Wood; and four sisters, Clarabelle, Eva, Mary and Vernie. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Rich Rakay will officiate. Burial will be in Cairo East Cemetery, Cairo, Ohio.
