CLAIR EUGENE BUTTURFF 87, died at 11:30 a.m. May 27, 2007 at the Ridge at Shawnee. He was born January 15, 1920, in Lima, Ohio to Clarence E. and Mary ?Molly? Jane Zerkle Butturff. On November 27, 1943, he married Rosemary Ramsdell, who died March 26, 2003. On November 1, 2003, he married Mary jean Archer, who survives. Mr. Butturff was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church and held various positions in the church. He was a member of the Heritage Foundation of the Lima YMCA; National Home Building Association; a 50-year member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 205 in Lima, Lima chapter 49 RAM and R&SM; Shawnee Commandry No 14 where he served as commander in 1964; Lima York Rite Association; El Karan Grotto No. 43 and was its monarch in 1961; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton Antioch Temple Dayton Shrine; Lima Shrine Club past president; Antioch Shrine Campers club; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54; Allegro Bay Camping Club; Family Motor coach Association; Ohio Nomads and the Gulf Streamers International RV club since the age of 6. He was a lifelong resident of Shawnee Township and a member of the first graduating class of Shawnee Centralized School to attend all 12 years following the building of a the new building. He attended The Ohio State University where he was a member of the University Chorus, Men?s Glee Club and Madrigal Singers. He held an honorary Doctorate Degree in Business from Ohio Northern University and was a member of the Ohio Northern Lehr Society 1942-48. He worked at Western Electric, where he assisted in establishing a training school and purchasing department. He owned and operated General Insurance Agency. From 1949 through 1989, he operated Butturff Builders and was developer of Indianbrook subdivision. He was president of the Lima District Methodist church Youth Fellowship; former president of the Lima Dinner Club; member of the executive committee of the Lima YMCA Travel and Adventure Series. He served on the Shawnee Zoning Board and many times on the Board of West Central Ohio Homebuilders Association. He was a real estate agent for Lockwood Real Estate and a six-gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross. He served on the Senior Citizens board of directors and was chairman of the building committee, which raised funds, designed the new structure and acted as general contractor for the Senior Citizens Services building. He traveled via motor home with his wife in all 50 states, all provinces of Canada, half of Mexico and trips to the Panama Canal and traveled overseas 48 times including one trip around the world. He was a supporter of Ohio Northern University and funded a continuing scholarship and atrium. Survivors include a step-daughter, Twyla (Thomas) Losh, of Ohio City, Ohio; a step-son Todd (Betty) Augsburger, of Kenton, Ohio; five step grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Richard Repasz, of Cridersville, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie (Vernon) Neff, of Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy M. Clark and Mary G. Repasz; and two brothers, Clyde Butturff and Harold Butturff. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Frank Cooley will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mathew?s Cemetery.
