Clarence Edward Brown

Clarence Edward Brown age 89, passed away peacefully on November 9th, 2019, after a brief illness. He was born on April 5th, 1930 in Meridian, MS to parents Allie Mae and Paul Brown whom he dutifully cared for several years until their deaths.

He is survived by a sister, Anne Elam of Willoughby OH and a sister-in-law Mary Ann Brown of Sebring FL and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Allie Mae (Harmon) Brown; brothers James Cornelius Brown, Emuel Wauzine Brown, John Hazel Brown, and Paul Lawrence Brown; sisters Theron Othella Brown, Evelyn Edwinna Brown, and Alice Lois Neal. He will be dearly missed by a host of nieces and nephews to whom he was much more than an uncle, great uncle and great-great uncle. He extolled upon each of them the importance of family, the value of an education and the greatest gift of all - love.

Following his graduation from T.J. Harris Senior High School in Meridian, Clarence proudly served for a number of years in the United States Air Force and the Air Force Reserves.  He subsequently earned a bachelor's degree in Science and Mathematics from Alabama State University and began his distinguished thirty-one year career with the Lima City School System serving as a Mathematics Teacher, Counselor and Director of Media Resources along with Acting Principal for seven Elementary Schools.  Always the consummate student, he continued is education earning a Master’s in Science degree from Indiana University and later earned a Doctor of Education degree from University of Sarasota.  Clarence’s collegiate teaching career began in 1972 teaching media resource at Miami University of Ohio followed by teaching educational courses at Bowling Green State University.  In addition, he served as Director of Media Resources and an Education Professor at the University of Findlay.

Clarence was member of Phi Delta Kappa; Knight of Columbus; Lima, Northwestern Ohio, Ohio, and National Education Associations where he served on the Executive Committee of the Ohio Education Association.  His civic affiliations included Friends of Music, Lima City Planning Commission, Allen County Regional Planning Commission, Downtown Review Committee for City of Lima, and Kiwanis International Service Club of Lima OH.

Clarence was a vocalist of classical music; and Cantor and member of his church choir over the years.  His hobbies and interest were varied; some of his favorites were cooking, baking, traveling, gardening and philately.

A private family burial of ashes will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on his behalf to the Kiwanis Music Scholarship fund which he chaired for many years.
