Clifford David Smith,
86 of Van Wert, Ohio died on Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Van Wert Co. Hospital in Van Wert, Ohio.
Born Tuesday, June 17, 1924 in Lima, Ohio, he was the son of the late Arthur Smith and the late Gwendolyn Lesh Smith. He was the husband of Elva Duncan Smith.
His first wife was Anna Mae Gebhart Smith Martin who preceded him in death. On April 6, 1957 he married Elva M. Duncan, she survives in Van Wert. He was an Accountant - retired from City of Wooster Welfare Dept. after 30 years. He was a Life member of Disabled American Veterans, the VFW, American Legion and the Van Wert Pentecostal Church of God - Van Wert, OH
During the late 1940's and early 1950's Mr. Smith painted scenery for Walt Disney and MGM Studio's. He continued to enjoy being an artist the rest of his life. He also loved fishing. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII on the B24 Liberator from December 3, 1942 to November 21, 1944, earning various medals during his service.
Surviving are son, Robert (Maxine) Smith of Bessemer City, NC, daughters, Dianna L. Bowers of Delphos, OH and Cathy (Rick) Martin of Delphos, OH, brother, James E. Smith of Lima, OH, sisters, Ida Smith of Lima, OH, Barbara (Earl) Miller of Harrod, OH and Kathryn Ogle of Kokomo, IN; 5 grandchildren
Theresa & Craig Wireman, Annastacia & Gary Limron, Clifford & Crystal Moneer, Nancy Clay, Rose Smith, two step grandchildren, Amanda & Mark Atkinson, and Audie Eugnen & (Ashley) Hall, Fifteen Great Grandchildren Leigh Ann Smith, Joey Taylor, Amanda Taylor, Justin Moneer, Dustin Moneer, Mark Perry, Matthew Limron, Cora Limron, Lucas Clay, MaeLynn Clay, Sabastain Moneer, Marissa Moneer, Clifford Moneer, Jr. Issac Moneer, Brayden Moneer, Two step Great Grandchildren, Lilly Ray, and Kristen Moneer, two great great grandchildren, Justin Taylor, and Kenneth Taylor
He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Robert Lee Smith, Jr. an Allen Moneer and a sister, Dorthea Ervin.
A Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home with the Pastor Ron Prewitt officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, OH. with a military service conducted by the VFW post 1275.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, , , . Memorial contributions may be sent to Blind Veterans Association.
