Clinton Hurd Jr., 83, died at 5 a.m. January 13, 2009, at the Villa at Baton Rouge, Lima, Ohio. He was born July 21, 1925, in Cairo, Illinois, to Clinton and Virgalee McNish Hurd, who preceded him in death. On March 17, 1951, he married Lady Alice Cooper, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Hurd served in the Navy as a seaman first class from November 24, 1943, to January 2, 1946. After the service, he worked for his grandfather in the trucking industry and then was an engine watchman for the Michigan Central Railroad. In 1969, he went to work for Waste Management as a truck driver until his retirement in 1989. He was a life member of American Legion Post 96. He enjoyed working, sports and the Detroit Tigers, and he was a Michigan fan. He loved spending time with his family and loved trains and collecting baseball hats. Survivors also include two sons, Guy L. (Cathy) Hurd, of Eagle River, Alaska, and Gerald F. (Beverly) Hurd, of Bremerton, Washington; two daughters, Lynne Hurd and Lenise (Thomas Sr.) Terry, both of Lima, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Erica L. Hurd, of Lima, Ohio, Guy J. (April) Hurd, of Anchorage, Alaska, Monjula T. Crisp, of Columbus, Ohio, April D. Hurd, of Anchorage, Alaska, LaShonda R. Terry, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Theresa M. Crisp, of Lima, Ohio, Terrelle F. Terry Sr., of Lima, Ohio, Ashley K. Hurd, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Marisa A. Hurd, of Bremerton, Washington; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Jimmie L. Hurd and Charlie E. Hurd, both of Lansing, Michigan; four sisters, Mary E. Dunlop, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ethel M. Clark, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Florence R. (James) Paschall, of Inkster, Michigan, and Norma J. (Thomas Sr.) Clemons, of Detroit, Michigan; a brother-in-law, Azar Bradshaw, of Jackson, Michigan; a former daughter-in-law, Vera L. (Frieson) Hurd, of Anchorage, Alaska; a former son-in-law, Donald R. Crisp, of Lima, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas F. Terry Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Thomas F. Terry III and NaKyla J. Terry; a brother, Johnny B. Hurd; three sisters, Ola R. Garrison, Oree V. Bradshaw and Jacquelyn A. Hurd; and two brothers, Virgil G. and Albert L. Hurd. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a VFW service will be held. Pastor Bill Kronk will officiate. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, where a private family service will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
