Clyde Evans

CLYDE EVANS, 91, died at 9 p.m. March 21, 2007, at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born March 2, 1916, in Goldsboro, North Carolina to Clyde and Estelle King Evans, who preceded him in death. On August 12, 1965, he married Barbara Rizor, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Evans was owner and president of Clyde Evans Markets and Clyde Evans Land Co. and was a philanthropist. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member of Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 54 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370. During World War II, he served in the civil service as a boilermaker in Hawaii. He loved people, the grocery business, fishing and his family. Survivors also include a daughter, Sharon "Sherry" Vida, of Lancaster, California; a son, David Clyde "Dave" Evans, of Lima, Ohio; two stepsons, Paul (Brenda) Rizor and Brad Rizor, both of Lima, Ohio; two sisters, Elaine (Leon) Cravitz, of North Carolina, and Carolyn Heil, of Columbus, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, Shawn Cooper, Scott Cooper, Chris (Tony) Morman, Vicki (John) Kestler, Valli (Christopher) Gideons, J.T. (Melanie) Vida, Jaylene (Bob) Morgan, Char Evans, Dena Evans, David "D.J." Evans, Alex Evans, Ellissa Rizor, Elayna Rizor and Jennifer (Bruce) Baker; 15 great-grandchildren; and his first wife, Marjorie McElroy Evans, of Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzy Cooper, who died October 2, 2005. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
