Crit William Akers 73, died at 10:38 p.m. June 26, 2009, at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born August 28, 1935, in Paintsville, Kentucky, to Thomas and Lula J. Stambaugh Akers, who preceded him in death. On February 28, 1987, he marred Jo Ann Vance, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Akers was a time study for Teledyne Ohio Steel. He also worked at the Allen County Engineer?s Office and was the Allen County administrator for 10 years. He retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation as an administrator. He was a loving servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Jaycee?s, Fraternal Order of Police, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, Lima, and a committeeman for the Allen County Republican Party. He helped in the founding of Veterans Memorial Civic Center and the new Allen County jail. He was a member of Rousculp Church of Christ and sang in the choir. He served on various boards throughout Allen County and the state of Ohio. He was a Golden Gloves boxer and attended Morehead State, where he ran track and cross-country. He loved golfing, bowling, gardening, flowers, doing yard work and spending time with his family. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the University of Kentucky Wildcats athletics. Survivors also include three sons, Troy (Tracey) Akers, of Warsaw, Indiana, Jason Akers, of Odenton, Marylland, and Matthew (Stacy) Christoff, of Lima, Ohio; a daughter, Marissa (Ronald) Snyder, of Lima, Ohio; a sister, Belva (Irvin) Lauber, of Lima, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Tyler, Tara, Bryce, Sofia, Maria and Sarah. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Akers; three sisters, Marta Cleo Clay, Mary Baxter and Anna Lee Bacon; a granddaughter, Selena Snyder; and an infant sister, Murah Mae Akers. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rousculp Church of Christ. Pastor Mark Vernik will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
