67 of Elida, OH died at 11:02 AM on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio

Daryl was born on January 29, 1949, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Gordon Van Gundy and Pauline (Smith) Van Gundy.

Daryl married his high school sweetheart, Pam Byers on July 3, 1971. She survives in Elida. He graduated from Elida High School class of 1967 and then served in the Army from 1968-1970. He retired from Superior Coach and Midbus and was previously co-owner of Elida Depot Drive Thru. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Ohio State fan and enjoyed gardening and hanging out in his man cave with family and his two closest friends Jim Wagner, Chris Patterson, and his sister-in-law Sandy Bowers, and his special dogs "Zowie" and "Shilo". He loved going on family trips to Pigeon Forge, TN. People loved his big sense of humor. He was a simple man and enjoyed being around the people that he loved.

He is survived by son, Jason Van Gundy and a daughter, Tara (Scott) Bender; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Taylor, Braidon, Bailey, Brandon, Brenna, Landen; two sisters, Mary (Gerald) Miller and Doreen Picklesimer; a sister-in-law, Kathy McGue.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert McGue and Jim McGue.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
