David E. Hefner, 82, died at 10:57 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009, at Baton Rouge Senior Health Services Community. He was born April 18, 1927, in Ottawa to George and Naomi G. Light Hefner Sr., who preceded him in death. Mr. Hefner retired from the Lima City Fire Department. Following his retirement, he was a janitor at High Street United Methodist Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 96. He was an Army veteran for World War II, serving in the European Theater. Survivors include a daughter, Debra A. (Ron) Lhamon, of Lima; three grandsons, Douglas Lhamon, Thomas (Lori) Lhamon and Rob (Christina) Lhamon, all of Lima; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and his special friend, Evelyn Burman. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Hefner Jr. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. William Cronk will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
