DaVilla Workman

DaVilla ?Dee? Workman, 87, died at 12:21 p.m. September 22, 2010, at Lima Memorial Health System. She was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Lima to Lester and Gertrude Hall Houx, who preceded her in death. On July 3, 1943, she married Everett F. Workman, who died in 1976. Mrs. Workman was an elementary school teacher at Horace Mann and Whittier schools. She retired in 1988 as a guidance counselor from North Junior High School. She was a graduate of Ohio Northern University, Ada, and Bowling Green State University. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was active in the youth education program. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was a master of needlework and the spiritual head of the family. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and Kappa Delta Pi sororities. Survivors include a son, E. Phillip (Cynthia) Workman, of Wapakoneta, Ohio; six grandchildren, Melanie Lynn (Greg) Stevens, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Cory Ann (Joe) Fultz, of Marysville, Ohio, Shannon Ren? Stombaugh, of St. Marys, Ohio, Carrie (Mark) Van Buskirk, of Lancaster, Pa., and Jennifer Witherwax and Brian Kosko, both of St. Louis; 11 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Andrew, Cole, Ben, Cyra, David, Kaitlyn, Hayden, Max, Benjamin and Ty; and a nephew, Dan (Kay) Houx, of Alger. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Dee Kosko; a brother, Eldon (June) Houx; and a nephew, David Houx. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Kent Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Putnam County Hospice or Lancaster County Autism Mommies, Lancaster, PA 17602.
