Deke M. Schoonover,
43, passed away peacefully with his sister (who adored him) by his side on July 4, 2018 at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born March 23, 1975 in Lima, Ohio to Michael and Joyce “Juicer” (Rieman) Schoonover.
He is a graduate of Elida High School, and a professional student at The Ohio State University. Deke was a unique soul with a dry sense of humor and a brilliant mind. Aside from his humor and intelligence, he was a generous and empathetic young man. An example of his kindness and generosity was exemplified by Deke while living in Columbus, where he befriended a homeless individual. Through that friendship he learned the man had a job interview. Knowing this, Deke took it upon himself to provide him with dress clothes. Not many people would have taken the time to listen to a stranger, let alone go above and beyond to help, but that was Deke.
He is survived by his parents Mike and Joyce, paternal grandmother Bernadette Schoonover, older brother J. Jay (Natalie) Schoonover, younger sister Shay (Angie) Schoonover, nephews Owen and Josh Schoonover, nieces Alex, Julia, Emily, Reese and Piper Schoonover. He is also survived by countless aunts, uncles, and cousins. In addition to his blood relative, he is also survived by his second family, commonly known as the Wilsey girls, Patti, Christi, Erin (his BFF), Kelly and Amy.
Friends and family may visit on Saturday, July 7, 2018 from 12-2 PM at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to make donations to the St. Rita’s addiction services or the Intensive Outpatient program.
