Denzel R. ?Red? Earehart, 89, died at 6:12 p.m. November 1, 2010, at St. Rita?s Medical Center. He was born June 22, 1921, in Pennville, Indiana, to Ira Delbert and Doris Rowland Lavina Earehart, who preceded him in death. On May 17, 1941, he married Almeada Kathryn Cain, who died in July 1980. On October 24, 1981, he married Helen Irene Custer Hullinger, who died January 27, 2010. Mr. Earehart was a 1940 graduate of Pennville High School, Pennville, Indiana. He attended South Side Christian Church. He had worked at Lima Locomotive Works/Clark Equipment from June 1941 and retired when the plant closed in August 1981. He was an Army veteran serving in World War II, from April 24, 1944, to January 9, 1946, with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy, where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a life member of American Legion Post 96, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a 60-year member of Lodge 585 Free & Accepted Masons and a longtime member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370. Survivors include two sons, Dwight (Wanda) Earehart, of Lebanon, Mo., and Danny (April) Earehart, of Indiana; three stepsons, Charles (Linda) Hullinger Jr., of Delphos, Ohio, and Donald (Pam) Hullinger and Larry (Cheryl) Hullinger, both of Lima, Ohio; six grandchildren; 19 step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 34 step great-grandchildren; a sister, Melba J. Klizer, of Fort Wayne, Indiana and four sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Carl) Reed, Virginia (Dick) Hartzog, Barbara (Ray) Barnes and Margaret (Gale) Kline, all of Lima, Ohio. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Wanda Werking will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.
