D. Jean Tomlinson

D. Jean Tomlinson, 91, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2021, at Lima Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born April 24, 1930, to Frank and Marie Fisher in Lafayette, Ohio. Her strong faith was instilled in her by her parents for which she was forever grateful.

On November 27, 1948, she married Robert C. Tomlinson at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Berger residing. They were married for 62 wonderful years. Mr. Tomlinson preceded her in death in 2010. Mrs. Tomlinson graduated from Central High School in 1948. She devoted her life to serving others. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church for 67 years where she served as Church Treasurer, Sunday School teacher for 35 years, Member of Altar Guild, Christian Service for many years, served hundreds of funeral dinners, served monthly senior citizen dinners for many years, and was a member of Mary Circle. More recently, she was a member of Immanual Lutheran Church for 12 years serving on the Education Committee and Altar Guild. She also served as a board member and secretary for Cheryl Allen Southside Center, and volunteered at Our Daily Bread.

She was the Secretary and Treasurer at Tomlinson Motor Service, Inc. where she continued to work until her death. Her last day in the office was November 24, 2021.

Mrs. Tomlinson was forever devoted to her family, and she would play cards and games with anyone who was willing to partake. Survivors include four children, Greg (Valerie), of Lima, Ohio, Dave (Landa), of Spencerville, Ohio, Mike (Diane), of Lima, Ohio/Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and Jill (Jeff) Gruber, of Mars, Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren, Greg II (Holly), of Tampa, Florida, Nicholas (Lindsey), of Tega Cay, South Carolina, and Jennae (Stacy), of Woodbridge, Virginia, Scott (Viktoryia), of Sanford, Florida, Jim (Sarah), of Bettendorff, Iowa, and Rebecca (Brian), of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Corey (Kelly), of Toledo, Ohio, Lauren and Abbey, of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Mackinley and Kelsey, of Fort Collins, Colorado; 17 great-grandchildren, Lorelai, Adler, Cecily, Kamryn, Blake, Tyler, Grant, Krysta, Tobin, Perrin, Bailey, Eli, Lloyd, Norah, Eliza, Ryen, and Charlotte. Survivors also include many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, and very special friends, including the Pinochle Club.

Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 11, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Pastor Michael Phillips will officiate. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 10, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, and from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Jude’s Hospital, or the Lima Rescue Home. The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Lima Memorial Hospital for their care.
