Donald Russell Boyd, 79 of Lima,died at 12:49 A.M. Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System.
Born Friday, January 19, 1934, in Lima, he was the son of the late Russell Garner Boyd and the late Mary Donna (Arnold) Boyd. He married Ruth Jean Graham-Hines on April 30,1966, she died June 26, 1998. He then married Beverly Ann Foster Wright on February 5th, 2000, and she survives in Lima.
Mr Boyd graduated from Lafayette-Jackson High School in 1952 and lived in the Lafayette area most of his life. He attended Ohio State University and Ohio Northern University. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp School, Ft. Monmouth, NJ, as a radar instructor and also in the 3rd Rocket & Howitzer Battalion, 9th Div. Inf., U.S. Army Reserve in Lima.
He was employed by the Westinghouse Aerospace Division for 7 years and contributed to the Apollo Space Program and other advanced projects. He retired from Ohio Northern University College of Engineering after 30 years of service. He was a very active member of the Lima Beane Barbershop Chorus and sang with the Lafayette Community Chorus for over 40 years. He was a member of the Lima Astronomical Society and Editor of their newsletter, The Star Gazer. He was a long time member of the Forest Park United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir.
Surviving are four sons; Phillip Wesley (Laura) Boyd of Brookville,OH Paul Brent Boyd of Lima,OH, Joel Eric Boyd of Harrod,OH and Jonathan Lowell Boyd of Irving, TX, Other survivors include two step-daughters; Sheri Lynne (Dennis) Pohl of Farmersville,OH and Jodi LeeAnne (Greg) Fasig of Loveland,OH two sisters; Joan (Howard) Lininger of New Haven, IN and Linda (Rev. Walter) Frankenberry of Carlisle, PA. and ten grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, January 21, 2013, at the Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home,
Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Forest Park United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Benjamin officiating.
Interment will be at Liberty Chapel Cemetery.
