Donald Lee Maitlen passed away in Garland, TX at age 76 at 1:30 am, December 16, 2020 at Winters Park Nursing Home. Don was born September 4, 1944 in Lima, Ohio to John R. “Bob” Maitlen and Juanita M. (Shepherd) Maitlen, both deceased.
Don married Dawn E. Adams, who he had known since childhood, in Lima, Ohio on January 1, 1972.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn, of 49 years, son Jeffrey L. Maitlen of Garland, TX, daughter Melynda “Myndy” C. (Fred) Prater of Garland, TX, and son John R. Maitlen, II of Garland, TX, grandsons Joshua and Jared Prater, step-grandchildren Jennifer (Prater) Anderson, Adam Prater, and Jessica Prater, sister Beverly Ellerbrock of Bluffton, IN, and cousin Jim Maitlen of Lima, OH.
Don graduated high school from Lima Senior High and graduated from the University of Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in architecture. He was an architectural engineer with several banks till he retired in 2014.
He spent his free time making wooden toys and his favorite family game was Monopoly. He loved traveling, woodworking, and model trains. Don will be dearly missed by his large family.
A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, OH.
