Donald Mason

DONALD E. "DON" MASON, 84, died at 10:20 p.m. Nov. 30, 2006, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home. He was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Middlesboro, Ky., to William J. and Sarah M. Patterson Mason. His father preceded him in death. His mother survives in Lima. On Nov. 24, 1940, in Middlesboro, Ky., he married Dora Jones, who survives in Lima. Mr. Mason had been an assembler at Superior Coach for 30 years. He was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church, where he had been a deacon, trustee and Sunday school director. He had been a choir director at several churches for 50 years. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving from Oct. 8, 1940, to Nov. 26, 1946, aboard the USS Saratoga, the USS Lexington and the USS Enterprise. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the attack. Survivors also include a daughter, Donna (Nick) Thedieck, of Lima; a son, Michael (Ginger) Mason, of Frankfort, Ky.; two sisters, Mary Mumaugh, of Lima, and Willa Dean Madison, of Miami; a brother, James K. Mason, of Fremont; six grandchildren, Michael Daren Mason, Myndi Mayer, Christopher Mason, Nicole Sayers, Trevor Thedieck and Tia Sherrick; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Bill Mason; three sisters, Lora, Zora and Ann; and a granddaughter, Melissa Mason. Services will begin at 7 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Christopher Page will officiate. Graveside services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday in Jones Cemetery, Middlesboro, Ky. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of services today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Creech Funeral Home, Middlesboro, Ky.
