Donald D. Prochnow 75, died April 5, 2009, at the Lima Convalescent Home, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 13, 1933, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Derwood and Winifred Prochnow, who preceded him in death. On October 30, 1984, he married Joann Edwards McKinley, who survives. Mr. Prochnow worked for Levi Straus in Michigan before being transferred to Lima in 1966, where he was a service manager at several dealerships in the Allen County and surrounding area. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member of Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Loge 54 for more than 40 years, joining in 1967. While a member of BPOE, he instituted the annual Lima Elks Invitational Swim Meet, held several offices including exalted ruler from 1972 to 1973 and state president from 1998 to 1999, served as Elks West Central Activities chairman, West Central District deputy, and served on the National Government Relations Committee for the Elks Grand Lodge since 2004. He had been a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 54 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a 1951 graduate of Ann Arbor High School, Ann Arbor, Mich., and a 1960 graduate of Michigan State University. He was a Navy veteran serving from 1953 to 1955, during the Korean War. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, gardening, hunting and fishing. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, who had an incredible memory and an endearing and engaging personality. Survivors also include five children, Wendy Marks, of Nashville, Tenn., Dennis Prochnow, of Lusby, Md., Bruce McKinley, of Lima, Jackie Miller, of Fort Mill, S.C., and Kevin (Sue) Prochnow, of Novato, Calif.; and nine grandchildren, Justin Prochnow, Nathan Prochnow, Matthew Prochnow, Shelby Marks, Chad Miller, Brittany Miller, McKenzie Miller, Megan Prochnow and Noah Prochnow. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. David Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
