Doris Maxine Chambers

Doris Maxine Chambers, 94, passed away at 12:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Lima Convalescent Home.

Doris was born on September16, 1928, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Virgil Miller Joseph and Helen Lucille (Fraunfelter) Joseph Bushey.  On November 7, 1947, she married her beloved, Harold Richard Chambers, who preceded her in death on February 23, 2001, after 53 years of marriage.

Doris graduated from Lima South High School.  She worked as a manager of Myers Dry Cleaners and as a clerk at Northland Fabric Stores.  She was a member of The Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren.  Doris enjoyed visits with her family and friends.  She was quick-witted and feisty.  She was a self-proclaimed crochet queen and a skilled seamstress.  Her family has many fond memories of swimming at their pool.  She loved playing games and doing the daily crosswords.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Richard) Askins of Coldwater, MI; grandchildren: Mathew (Mandy) Holtsberry, Monica (Brad) Hughes, Amy (Daryl) Stephens, Brian  (Kelly) Morgan, Kelly (Craig) Dines, Eric (Erin) Askins; eighteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, husband, and four sisters, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Elaine Mason and an infant son.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.  on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.  with Brian Richardson officiating.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Deb’s Dogs, in honor of Doris’ A-1 caregiver and pet protector.
