Doris Cook

Doris L. Cook, 92, died at 2:50 a.m. April 1, 2009, at Lima Convalescent Home. She was born Nov. 7, 1916, in Lima to Charles L. and Blanche Scholfield Yazel, who preceded her in death. On Dec. 17, 1938, she married Jesse Francis ?Frank? Cook, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Cook had been a teacher from 1937 until her retirement in 1976, having taught at Cairo Elementary, was a principal at Robin Rogers and a fifthand sixth-grade math teacher Lima elementary schools. She was a member of Westside United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Phi Gamma Tau Sorority and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She was a graduate of North Manchester College in Indiana and received her bachelor?s degree from Ohio Northern University. She received additional certification from the University of Pittsburgh and Bowling Green State University for teaching mentally disabled students. Survivors include a daughter, Susan (Richard) Sherrick, of Rockford; a granddaughter, Katherine (Samuel) Brautigam, of New Bremen; two greatgrandchildren, Lillian Brautigam and Grant Brautigam; and a stepbrother, William Breese. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Jim, Owen, Robert and Jim Yazel; an infant daughter, Ann Louise Cook; and her close friend, Richard Frail. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Chamb e r l a i n - H u c k e r i e d e Funeral Home. The Revs. Tim Yazel and William Cronk will officiate. Burial will be in Auglaize Cemetery, Harrod.
