Dorothy A. Ridenour
103, died at 12:35 PM on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Auglaize Acres, Wapakoneta, Ohio.
Dorothy was born on October 30, 1911, in Allen County, near Gomer, to the late Offa and Margaret (Jones) Brenneman. On March 21, 1937 in Allen County, Ohio , she married Harold Ridenour who preceded her in death in 1979.
She is survived by a son, James (Carol) Ridenour, of Wapakoneta, OH; two granddaughters, Janet (Mark) Steinke of Wapakoneta and Cindy (Tim) Appel of Missouri; five great grandchildren, Ashley Place, Joshua Steinke, Brandon Steinke, Christy Marchel and Eric Fefferman and five great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one great grandchild, Emily Ridenour and one brother Thomas Bourne.
Dorothy graduated in 1930 from Gomer High School. She worked as a Telephone operator for some time. She took an interest in styling hair and doing manicures, so she worked at the Princess Ritz and the Leader and eventually opened her own shop-Dorothy's Beauty Shop. When Dorothy was 14 she started playing the piano for her church, the Welsh Congregational Church, in Gomer. She was the church choir director for many years. She eventually became the church pipe organist until she was 92 and was named the church's' "Organist Emeritus". She played for many weddings throughout the area and accompanied many soloists throughout the United States and Canada. She was a lifelong member of the Welsh Society of Northwest Ohio. She was an active lifelong member of the Congregational Church in Gomer. In the early 50's she formed her own band. She played the piano while others played guitar, banjo, violin and drums. The band performed as a square dance band at many events. The band also played at nursing homes in the area. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 PM to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
A funeral service will begin at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Gomer Congregational Church in Gomer, OH. Revs. Jeffrey Frantz and Brian Knoderer will officiate.
Interment will be in Pike Run Cemetery, Gomer, Ohio.
