Duane DeVere Reynolds Sr.
91, died at 5:16 AM on Monday, January 23, 2017, at Lost Creek Care Center in Lima, Ohio.

Mr. Reynolds was born on January 8, 1926, in Putnam County, Ohio, to the late Benjamin Reynolds and Beulah (Moore) Reynolds. On July 19, 1947, he married Vivian A. (Timmerman) Reynolds who preceded him in death on October 31, 2002.

Mr. Reynolds was a highly decorated World War II Veteran, entering the service while just a sophomore at Delphos Jefferson High School. He was honorably discharged from the Navy/ Marine Corp on June 1, 1946. Mr. Reynolds fought in the Battle of Peleliu and the Battle of Okinawa in the South Pacific and was awarded for his service to his country and the injuries sustained in combat three Bronze Stars, two purple Hearts and a Presidential Unit Citation.

After returning from the service, Mr. Reynolds embodied what so many returning soldiers did in what has been called the Greatest Generation. Through his labors, he began building a successful civilian life, initially selling furnaces door to door for the Holland Furnace Company. Acquiring more and more technical skill along the way, by 1955, he was ready to start his own business, Reynolds Heating Service, which he ran successfully for the next fifty years.

Mr. Reynolds loved his family unconditionally. The family would also like to thank Lost Creek Nursing Home, especially Dionne and Christa, his aides, whom Mr. Reynolds grew to love. Mr. Reynolds loved all children and had a special connection with Zoey, a granddaughter to Christa.

He not only loved his family but their pets as well. Jack, Maci and Zoey were especially dear to him. Mr. Reynolds was a very special man, living a full life by taking the full measure from every hour, every minute, and every second. He, as has been often said, never met a stranger and made such a difference in the word. He will be missed by so many, including acquaintances, friends and, of course, his family.


He is survived by four sons, Duane DeVere (Roberta, deceased) Reynolds, Jr., Terry Lee Reynolds, Dale Allen (Jennifer) Reynolds, and Randy Lynn Reynolds, all of Lima, OH; his grandchildren Tara L. Reynolds, Kristen C. Reynolds, Ryan Duane (Nichole) Reynolds, and Nicholas L. Reynolds; and his great- grandchildren Nathan, Samuel, Christian, Max, Tatum, Lilliana, Michael, Landon; and sister Martha Jane Reynolds Staup.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Reynolds, and two brothers Benjamin Reynolds, and Don Reynolds, and a sister Lil Hefner.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio, with a wake following visitation at 8:00 P.M.. Rev. Arthur Butler will officiate the wake service.

A funeral service will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Friday January 27 at the funeral home.
Father Dave Ross will officiate.

Interment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery in Lima.
