Edna A. James, 93, died at 1:30 p.m. November 11, 2008, at Lochhaven Assisted Living. She was born July 26, 1915, in Elgin, Ohio to Charles and Mary Hughes Wolery, who preceded her in death. In 1986, she married Peter James, who died in 1988. Mrs. James had taught school for more than 25 years, having taught at Lima City Schools, Elida Elementary School and in Pinellas County, Fla. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Seminole, Florida, where she spent several years working with its Literacy Ministry Program. She was an Ohio State Alumna. She was a member of Beta Kappa Sorority and Alpha Delta Kappa, a teachers sorority. Survivors include a son, Gary E. (Janet) Grigg, of Elida, Ohio; a daughter, Marlea (Steve) Merriman, of Florida; a granddaughter, Deanna (Scott) Holmes; a step granddaughter, Stevie Merriman; and a great-grandson, Gage Holmes. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Wolery; and a sister, LaVonne Miller. Private graveside services will be held in Tomlinson Cemetery, Rockford. There will be no visitation.
