Edward E. Elwood, 61, died at 4:45 p.m. Sept. 21, 2010, at his residence. He was born June 27, 1949, in Lima to George A. and Elizabeth C. Bicknell Elwood Jr., who preceded him in death. Mr. Elwood had been a security guard for Nash Finch, Proctor & Gamble, Ohio Steel and the recreation department of the University of Northwestern Ohio. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, where he taught CPR and had received its highest award for saving a young girl?s life. He was a member of Chapter 25 Order of Eastern Star, Sager Lodge 513 Free & Accepted Masons, where he had been a past master, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370. He was a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton. Survivors include a brother, Kenneth A. (Caroline) Elwood, of Lima; a sister, Debra L. (James) Gross, of Lima; an aunt, Joann Short; a niece, Keri (William) Carpenter; and two nephews, Jason Gross and Lucas Gross. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas A. Elwood Sr. Memorial services will begin at 6 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Mark Bowyer will officiate. Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday in Lewis Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of services today at funeral home, where a Masonic and Scottish Rite ring service will follow the memorial service.
