Edwin "Ed" W. Nixon, 85, of Lima, passed away at Lima Memorial Hospital on April 14, 2017 surrounded by his family.
Ed was born on September 15, 1931 in Westford, Massachusetts to the late Warren M. and Mabel M. {Lawrence} Nixon. On January 15, 1955 he married Joan Kelly. She survives in Lima.
He is also survived by his children, Robert (Sally) Nixon of Germantown, OH, Paul (Kimberly) Nixon of Austin, TX, John (Melanie) Nixon of Lima, OH, Kelly (Craig) Templin of Granbury, TX, Patrice (Kim) Leimbach of Marion, OH, and Julie (Craig) Jordan of Lima, OH, grandchildren, Deanna (Justin) Best, Michelle (Joe) Jackson, Scott (Stacey) Nixon, Erin (Sebastiaan) Waelkens, Stephanie (John) Guttman, Joshua (Sommer) Nixon, Tory Nixon, Tracy (Christos) Sampanis, Ryan Templin, Ty (Andrea) Templin, Christopher Leimbach, Kara (Nicholas) Goodwin, Kendra Leimbach, Emily (Robert) Riley, and Eric Jordan, 9 great-grandchildren, and a niece, Judy (John) Lethbridge.
Ed was preceded in death by his brother Lawrence Nixon, his sister Dorothea Nixon, and his great-grandchild Mae Best.
Ed graduated from Westford Academy in 1949 and was valedictorian of his graduating class. He then graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He was a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. Upon graduating, he was an industrial engineer for Westinghouse Electric in Lima, OH, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Gerard's Catholic Church, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, The Elks, The Eagles, and was past Chairman of the Boy Scout Troop 82 Committee. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and camping.
Ed's family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 3-8PM at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, OH., with a wake service following at 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 10AM at St. Gerard's Catholic Church, Lima, OH. A burial of ashes will be at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, OH at a later date.
