Edwin L. ?Ed? Wiess, 65, died at 3:15 a.m. October 14, 2010, at his residence. He was born November 7, 1944, in Bluffton, Ohio to Jesse and Dorothy Swank Wiess, who preceded him in death. He had been married to Jennie Ramirez, who survives in Soledad, Calif. He had also been married to Debbie Stidham, who survives in Willshire, Ohio. Mr. Wiess was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He had worked at Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton and had been a welder at General Dynamics. He was a member of the United Auto Workers and the Plumbers and Pipefitters unions. He was a member and past master of Acadia Lodge 306 Free & Accepted Masons, Spencerville, and a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, where he was a member for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, paragliding and life in general. Survivors also include two sons, Jess Wiess, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Joe Wiess, of Soledad, California; a daughter, Mary (Glen) Stoner, of Mount Washington, Kentucky; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill (Dianne) Wiess, of Rawson, Ohio, and David Wiess, of Cridersville, Ohio; a sister, Susan Cohen, of Waynesfield, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David Wiess. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Robert Reese will officiate.
