Erwin E. Adam, 82, died at 5:30 p.m. November 20, 2010, at Baton Rouge Senior Health Facility, Lima, Ohio. He was born March 2, 1928, in Allen County, Ohio to Floyd and Millie Miller Adam, who preceded him in death. On August 21, 1949, he married Dorothy Gilmore, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Adam was a member of the Lima Baptist Temple and its master builder class. He was a member of the Ohio Farmers Union, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, Lima, and AARP. At 16, he worked at Hume Elevator. He then took special training at Hawthorne Serving Co. in Sidney. He was the co-owner of Tri State Millwright Service with Wayne Lotz. He then started Midwest Millwright Service Inc. He was the co-owner of Elevator Service in Beaverdam, later called Hawthorne Systems Inc. Because of his health, he had to leave the elevator business. He then entered another business adventure with his son, Gary, starting a Maaco Auto Painting and Body Works. He lived to work and enjoyed being busy. Survivors also include two sons, David W. (Connie) Adam, of Middletown, Ohio, and Gary L. (Sandi) Adam, of New Haven, Indiana; a daughter, Carolyn M. (Jim) Prater, of San Bernardino, California; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rowena Pulfer and Helen (William) Louth, both of Lima, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Mary Adam, of Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Adam and Brent Adam; and a sister, Idella Adam. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
