Esther Barbara Golden

Esther Barbara Golden, 91, entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loved ones on June 24, 2023, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

Esther was born on October 16, 1931, in Rockford, Ohio, to Hilario and Helena (Hernandez) Ortega. On Sunday, May 5, 1963, she married Joseph E. Golden who preceded her in death on March 17, 1991.

Esther was a Registered Nurse and worked at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, and at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Ohio. She belonged to the Lima FOE Aerie 370, Lima, Ohio. She was a member of Cable Road Alliance Church, and Church on the Rock.

She is survived by her children, Julia (Mark) Barton, Stephanie (Tony Hines) Tapia, Thomas Golden; stepchildren, Jo Ellen Cook, Anthony Golden, Art (Nancy) Myers, and Larry Esmonde; the most cherished apples of her heart, seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Hilario (Nancy) Ortega, Mary Ochoa, Thedora (Jorge) Guerrero, Shirley Ortega, and Delores (Fabian) Canalas, David Ortega.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her first husband Allen Rundio; siblings, Joseph Ortega, Marion Ortega, Thelma Chavarria, John (Karen) Ortega, Inez Ruiz; a stepsister, Susan Hamende; and a great-granddaughter, Jennah Mackenzie Holbrook.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m.             on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Rev. Joseph Holbrook will officiate.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lima.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the care and compassion she received by Dr. Ojo, Dr. Ukiewe and staff of Allen County Council on Aging Adult Day Care Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Breast Cancer Foundation.
